What a powerful Thanksgiving gift to us all. Many thanks to Sheryl Banang, BS, MS Program Director, BHG Jackson Treatment Center for sharing her colleagues’ poems. Sarah and Sierra, thank you for your profound, encouraging poetry expressing how you see and capture our patients’ recovery experience.
You Got This
By Sarah Hauke, BS, Counselor
Chills, fever, body aches, and muscle pain, too.
Day one can be stressful as there is a lot of paperwork to do.
You made your appointment or walked in with bravery.
Don’t worry, we’re here to help at BHG with your recovery.
Here at BHG, we care.
It helps to help you with your story to share.
Your dose may take a while to be stable,
But, don’t worry, counselors are here – judgement free and no label.
Working your treatment, we help get you on track.
We’re here to help you get your life back.
Finally Free
By Sierra Kasson, T-LMFT, Counselor
For many years I had no control,
Spiraling faster and faster down a dark hole.
I struggled on my own to fight the pain,
But my strength would fail and I’d relapse again.
I thought all hope was lost for me,
Then I admitted into BHG.
I was no longer alone in my fight,
I now had a counselor to share their insight.
The nurses were there to monitor my dose,
And for the first time, recovery felt close.
The doctor would push for my success,
I didn’t always appreciate it, I must confess.
All of the work we did set the scene,
For me to honestly declare, “I’m clean!”
Thanks to all of the support from BHG,
I have found my strength and am finally free.
