BHG to Launch Pay It Forward

By Jay Higham, CEO

Every month when I read this newsletter, I’m reminded of the great stewardship you all demonstrate in your communities. Whether it’s raising funds for overdose awareness, mental health and other health-related issues or starting up a food truck and community closet for under-resourced residents, you all are living and breathing our core values of hope, respect and caring and building pathways to our treatment centers. To say “thank you” and show our commitment to giving back, I’m excited to announce work underway on our new volunteer program: Pay It Forward.

Pay It Forward is for you and about you, and one of the key components is aligning the beneficiaries of the program to your desires for your communities. We need you to take our survey and tell us what categories of nonprofits you believe best align to BHG and would be of most help to your communities, patients and families.

Giving is good for health and well-being.

As our leadership team developed this program, we came across great stats that support our holistic view of people, culture, work and health care.

  • On average, people spend 52 hours per year volunteering their time.
  • An average of 30% of employees volunteer.
  • People who volunteer report that they feel better emotionally, mentally and physically.
  • 82% of the HR survey respondents say employees want the opportunity to volunteer with peers in a corporate-supported event.
  • 88% believe effective employee engagement programs help attract and retain employees.
  • 78% of Americans wanting companies to address social justice issues.
  • 88% of Millennials find their job more fulfilling when they have opportunities to make a positive impact on society and the environment.
  • Employees who engaged in corporate giving programs tended to have 75% longer tenures with the company

Next Steps

We want your input on what types of nonprofits you want to support that are related to the work we do at BHG. Please complete our very short survey toward the end of this newsletter by Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14.  In next month’s newsletter, we’ll provide details on how the program works so that you can get started.

BHG Nashville Hosts Minority Food Truck, Staff Appreciation Day

When Program Director Adella Harris, M.MFT, ADDRM proposed the idea to start a Minority Food Truck Initiative and Staff Appreciation Day, her BHG Nashville team gladly stepped up to the plate to support their under-resourced community members and businesses and held their first event on December 15. “This not only supports our community, but also provides opportunity for employee morale building and interactions,” said Harris.

How to participate in the campaign

In support of BHG’s infectious disease vaccination policy, we are encouraging team members to vaccinate. If for any reason you pay out of pocket and it’s not reimbursable through insurance coverage for an infectious disease vaccination, you may submit the expense through our expense reimbursement system, Certify. In addition, if you receive a vaccination against an infectious disease, your name will go into a monthly drawing for a $100 gift card (3 cards each month will be awarded).

Haven’t entered the monthly drawing yet?

Step One. Get your vaccine and proof that you did, either as a receipt for the cost of the vaccine or a vaccine dosing card.

Step Two. Log in to Paycor and click on Personal Information and then on the Immunization Tab. From there, follow the on-screen instructions. HR will add your name into the random drawing.

You can find both the vaccination policy and a COVID-19 Vaccination FAQ on our HR SharePoint. Our HR SharePoint site and documents answer questions, and provide updated information coming from authorities. If you don’t find what you need, please reach out to [email protected].

Note: Above winners voluntarily granted permission for their names to be used in this announcement.
