A study found that between 2018 and 2019, Rhode Island had 5,000 residents already aware that they had OUD, and another 24,000 adults reported but not receiving treatment for illicit drug use that same year.*In September 2021, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) noted that Rhode Island reported a 22.5% increase in drug overdose deaths over the past 12-month period.
