By Dwight Mussleman, Chief Development Officer
BHG continues to strategically grow where there is a pressing need for our approach to real recovery. I’m proud to share that BHG has completed one of the largest acquisitions yet with Valhalla Place in Minnesota which includes four OTPs with 185 staff caring for 3,050 patients.
A Kaiser Family Foundation study found more than 109,000 adults in Minnesota reported needing but not receiving treatment for illicit drug use. In April 2021, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) noted that Minnesota’s 33% increase in drug overdose deaths exceeded the national average over the past 12-month period.

Reaching more patients in Virginia
We also expanded our footprint in Virginia with the acquisition of Staunton Treatment Center in Staunton, which includes both an OTP and OBOT. The BHG Staunton Treatment Center has 11 staff caring for more than 100 patients. This brings the number of BHG locations in Virginia to eight.
A Kaiser Family Foundation study found that between 2017 and 2018 more than 140,000 adults in Virginia reported needing but not receiving treatment for illicit drug use. In September 2021, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) noted that Virginia reported a 45.8% increase in drug overdose deaths over the past 12-month period compared to the U.S. average rate of 30.8%.
Please welcome all of our new staff from Minnesota and Virginia to the BHG family!
