Compliance Corner, Apr ’22

By Jaimee McGuire, DNP, NP-C, CHPSE, CHC, VP/Deputy Compliance Officer

As part of our continued review of the Seven Elements of an Effective Compliance Program, we’re spotlighting this month the third element, Training and Education. Not only will we share information related to training and education of BHG team members, but we will also highlight the training and education of the BHG Compliance Team.

To have an effective corporate compliance program, we must have appropriate and meaningful compliance training. In addition, all members of the corporate compliance team must be adequately trained and educated so they can properly perform their assigned job duties. The goal of these trainings is to ensure everyone is aware of and understands the rules that govern our business.

Compliance-specific training topics for BHG team members include:

  • Compliance onboarding
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse
  • HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2
  • BHG Policies and Procedures
  • Policy 308 (Records Requests and Subpoenas)

The above-named trainings are assigned to all new BHG team members and contractors via the learning management system. In addition to the trainings mentioned above, a Compliance Update will be made available at the end of each year to present a summary of BHG-specific compliance topics as well as relevant changes to rules that may affect our day-to-day operations. Compliance may also present various live trainings through the year, as appropriate.

In addition to offering the appropriate trainings, the U.S. Department of Justice expects appropriate recordkeeping related to training, and we must be able to provide information such as who we train, how the training takes place, and how often the training occurs. It’s important for all team members to attend or complete all trainings by the assigned due date, and management is responsibility for monitoring this and ensuring compliance.
