The required employee trainings for February are focused on fraud, waste and abuse and how this can impact patient care. It’s important that you know how to recognize what this looks like in our centers and what you can do to prevent it. If you have questions, please refer to BHG Policy 118 or reach out to the compliance department for more information. To report these matters, call the Ethics Hotline at 1-855-898-9091 or report online without fear of retaliation.
As BHG collectively celebrates Black History month, I’m reminded that when organizations have a strong culture of compliance, everyone benefits. Many of us think about compliance as the tasks and behaviors we practice to simply avoid findings during an external regulatory or payer audit. This definition of compliance is true but, I’d like to challenge you to consider another perspective when thinking about compliance.
Compliance with regulatory, payer and accreditation standards ensure that our services are being delivered in an ethical and consistent way. In other words, a strong culture of compliance creates a therapeutic environment in which everyone can be provided appropriate patient-centered care. Through assessment and treatment planning, we acknowledge and celebrate cultural differences while using identified strengths to support personal recovery goals.
In the end, compliance is not just about “not getting into trouble.” It’s about creating an environment in which all of us, team members and patients alike, can thrive and accomplish our personal and professional goals and aspirations. A culture of compliance is indeed “Real Recovery.”
