“A crisis within a crisis within a crisis.” That was in bold type in an article I read the other day describing what many Americans are experiencing as they thaw out from Winter Storm Uri. I can’t help but think of our patients who live where the storm hit and how difficult, maybe even triggering, this time was and still is for some, as waves of challenges continue to pound at our resilient spirits. Many of you dealt with closed centers while electricity went out and pipes froze in your homes. I’m deeply appreciative of how you continue to balance safety and care for your teams and clients and I hope you’re rallying support around those who are in need of help. I’ve witnessed time and again how our BHG family goes beyond the call of duty in difficult situations. Please let us know how you’re doing and if there are ways our Home Office team can assist. I also encourage you to share your valiant stories of connection and courage with our editor.
Speaking of valiant… Celebrating Women’s History Month has caused me to reflect on this: many women have and are still boldly and courageously breaking down barriers of inequity in the workforce, in recovery and treatment, and in society. Vice President Kamala Harris’ statement “I may be the first woman to hold this office, but I won’t be the last” is the mindset I wholeheartedly support for women working in our company and industry. I’m proud to have a growing number of women among our executive and board leadership who are carrying that spirit forward to all of you — our colleagues and peers who continually show up, thoughtfully, to meet the unique needs of women in recovery.
My door, both real and virtual, is always open to learning from you as we continue leading the way for a new class of recovery.
Your dedicated CEO,
Jay Higham
