Pay It Forward Goes Live

By Russell Goin, Chief People Officer (CPO)

Earlier this year, we introduced Pay It Forward, an employee volunteer program. To prepare for the program, we surveyed team members about causes they are most interested in supporting in their communities that intersect with the work of BHG. We received nearly 600 responses and based on the results, 96% of respondents voted for causes in the Hunger and Homelessness categories. We are excited to formally launch the program, which is one more way that we can Work with Purpose and strengthen our communities by living our core values of Hope, Respect, and Caring.

Step 1: Regional Directors and Program Directors

  • We are asking our Regional Directors to work with Program Directors and identify a 501(c)3 nonprofit that their teams can collectively support.
  • One way to easily research 501(c)3-certified nonprofits is through the Great Nonprofits website.
  • Once there, create search filters based on your location and the two categories of “Food” and “Homeless & Housing.”
  • Program Directors will announce the nonprofit identified and opportunities for employees to volunteer.

Step 2: You, Our Valued Employees

  • Employees are eligible for up to eight paid volunteer hours per year.
  • You must receive advance approval for any volunteer hours from your immediate supervisor.
  • You can spread your volunteer hours across multiple events vs. using them all at one time.
  • After you participate in your volunteer event(s), submit your volunteer time-off (VTO) hours in Paycor. Once you submit your VTO, you will receive an email directing you to our VTO app where you will be asked to complete a few questions. You must complete these steps to ensure you get paid. You will also be asked to submit photos via a link to our SharePoint page. With your permission, your photos may be highlighted in our Progress Notes employee newsletter and on BHG’s social media.

Step 3: Regional Directors and Program Directors

  • When employees have completed the VTO app steps, you will receive an email with details about their time off, event and the organization.
  • The Progress Notes editor will look at submitted photos in SharePoint on a monthly basis to consider including in the newsletter.
  • Should you personally want to send the editor photos, please be sure to include the first and last names, credentials and titles of employees and others in the pictures (from left to right).
  • Confirm by email employees’ permission to share the photos in the newsletter and on social media.

And the Award Goes to:

  • At the end of this year, the Regional Vice Presidents will vote on the most impactful events you supported.
  • The winning charity will receive a cash donation of $2,500.

This is going to be a great inaugural year for Pay It Forward! Thank YOU for helping us shape it and making it one of the many ways we Work with Purpose and support the communities that we are privileged to serve.

National Payroll Week

National Payroll Week is Sept. 5 through the 9 and celebrates the partnership between America’s employees, the payroll professionals who pay them, and the critical government programs and agencies that our payroll system funds. Together through the payroll withholding system, payroll professionals collect, contribute, and report 70% of the U.S. Treasury’s annual revenue.

NPW coincides with the week of Labor Day and highlights the achievements and symbiotic partnerships between America’s employees, payroll professionals, and various government programs and agencies. The APA, its local chapters, and others in the payroll industry use the week as a platform to spread awareness of the payroll withholding system, to host community service projects, and to educate others on how paychecks are calculated and how to get the most out of their pay.

The annual “Getting Paid In America” survey enables the APA to gauge changing trends and attitudes toward payroll and time and attendance topics. Survey results allow the APA to keep the public informed of important topics, such as the growth of electronic wage payments, the financial state of employees, and more. Findings from the survey often make media headlines.  Take the Getting Paid in America survey at  https://www.nationalpayrollweek.com/npw-survey/  for a chance to win a paycheck and a dream vacation.

Your payroll team is committed to paying all team members each pay period timely and accurately.
